Iran, in the western world knows as Persia, is the oldest country in the world with 7500 years of history.

The name Iran, comes from the persian word Aryanam, meaning The land of Aryans.
Aryans were the indo European people who migrated from Europe and Asia to ancient Iran.
Unfortunately today, the word "Aryan" is loaded with lots of negative definitions and has a big connection with Hitler and Nazies.
In 1935, Reza Shah Pahlavi, king of Iran asked those countries who had a diplomatic relation with Iran, to call Persia, Iran. Also, they didn't want to call it Aryanam, because of its relation with Nzies and Hitler.
The word Perisns is a latin word and mainly used by westerns to describe Iran and its people.
Even though that today, Persia is officially changed to Iran, but still there are thousands of peope in west who don't know the difference between the two, and still they think they are both completely different countries. Iranians are the People of Iran ( Persia), who speak Farsi (Persian).
"When ever I said I'm from Iran, They said, Salam Alaykom, meaning "Hi" in Arabic, thinking that Iran is the same as Iraq. And when ever I said I'm persian, they thought Im from somewhere else and not Iran."
